Baltimore County zoning process underway

Every four years Baltimore County undergoes the Comprehensive Zoning Map Process, known as CZMP.  The open filing period ended October 15, while the Planning Board filing period ended October 30.  The County Council filing period ends November 30, and the planning staff will review requests and make recommendations by February 29.  Then the Planning Board will hold public hearings, after which the County Council will hold hearings.  The County Council must vote on requests before September 16, 2016. Based on available information at this time we have not identified any requests that have been filed which negatively affect land preservation in our area.  View the CZMP log of issues by clicking here.

Baltimore County Land Preservation Legislative Breakfast

On December 2, meet our local and state legislators to talk about land preservation in Baltimore County.  The breakfast will be held at the Baltimore County Center for Maryland Agriculture at 1114 Shawan Road and will feature food from local farms. To register, click Eventbrite , or contact Alice Noplos at alice@thevpc.org.  As a sponsor of this event The Manor Conservancy hopes our members will turn out in force to show our elected officials that they support land preservation.

Field Crops Day
The Conservancy will present our video describing our conservation mission at the Northern Maryland Field Crops Day held by the University of Maryland's Extension Office at Friendly Farm on Foreston Road in Upperco.  The audience will be farmers from the North County  who will hear topics of interest related to their operations.  For more information click here.

Annual Meeting -- good friends, good food, good fun!
Over 90 members and supporters attended the annual meeting October 15.  A video explaining the history of our area and the mission of The Manor Conservancy was premiered (visit our website at www.themanorconservancy.org to view the video; many thanks to Kent and Millicent Jordan, to Bill Minor, and to Dorian Filbert for their help in producing the video).  President Henry Pitts awarded past president Jimmy Constable the Sergeant Murphy Award for his achievements in land preservation (below), and Councilman Wade Kach presented Jimmy with a Council Resolution in his honor.

Easement news

Preserving land by facilitating the sale or donation of conservation easements is our goal.  Right now we are working to preserve several  properties that total over 100 acres; we anticipate those easements will be completed in early 2016.  If you know about a property that might be at risk, please let us know at info@themanorconservancy.org. We encourage you to let your friends and neighbors know that conservation easements benefit the wider community through preservation of agricultural production, environmental protection, and recreational and aesthetic enjoyment.

Field Trips
Remember how much you looked forward to field trips when you were in school?  We do, and we're scheduling field trips for our members that should prove to be as much fun as those outings of yesteryear.  Planned events include learning about stream buffers, pruning trees, growing plants from seed, cover crops, and preserving wildlife habitat, all held on location on preserved land.  All field trips will be free for members.  Stay tuned for exact dates and locations.
